Foreign students must take a TOEFL exam. The application must contain a letter of intent, resume, two letters of recommendation, transcripts, the application form and fee.
Schools with small class sizes for this type of a program offer more individualized attention than those with large classes. However, each student is given a faculty advisor who can be contacted at any time to give necessary advice or assistance. In every school, classes are designed so that a topic is fully understood before moving on the next subject.
Core courses inthe Masters of Information Assurance program include, Introduction to Information Assurance, Cryptography, Legal Concepts for Security Professionals, Information Threats and Security for Wireless Communications. Skills taught will be ability to make recovery plans if there is a breach in security, understanding protection of data systems and components, and the ability to process and be aware of emerging threats and how to establish resources to protect government or organizations from these threats.
Although software and technology play a great part in skills needed for jobs in this area, the programs emphasize mastering procedures and structure of an organizations data security program. The goals are to master the fundamental basis that must be protected, by means of technical and human factor technical defenses. They will also understand the element of management through analysis, planning, and tools to integrate security in a corporate culture.

Employment might include professional management as Chief Security Officers, Security Administrators or Chief Information Security Officers, Chief Risk Manager, or others of equal rank.

S Bureau of Labor Statistics states it is around $92,000, not counting benefits.
